pipwinJul 24, 20181 min readCommission - Elsie the sheepUpdated: Mar 10, 2019I was commissioned to carve a sheep as a wedding present.After discussing the design of the sculpture with the client, I do a sketch to confirm what I am going to carve.I started with this block of Portland stone.Drawing the shape onto the stone.Working out where the legs will be attached.The sheep is beginning to take shape.Carving the wool.The legs are welded onto the steel base and galvanised.The sheep is positioned on the legs - the legs were filled with cement, into which stainless steel dowels were set, which fitted into pre-drilled holes in the base of the stone.Elsie the sheep in situ, with the base set 100mm into the ground and turf laid over that so that she appears to be standing on the lawn.
